Who we are
The Hands Across Africa Society was started by colleagues at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton, Canada, who wanted to improve the lives of others. It has evolved into a group of volunteers who focus on fundraising for projects in two African countries: Tanzania and Sierra Leone. From time to time, the group holds fundraisers in the Edmonton area.
In the fall of 2006, 20 members climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, in a fundraising effort.
In 2010, two Edmonton friends, Axel Hallbauer and Mike Maiani, travelled by motorcycle across parts of Canada, Europe, Asia and Africa, to raise funds for Hands Across Africa. Their adventure ended with a hike to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. To learn more about their trip, go to www.RideForAfrica.org.
